Short story - an existing network may see the CoP as competition

We worked with an association of travel agents. Our initial contacts were very positive; it was felt that the CoP activity could revitalise the network which was not so active. Unfortunately, when the idea reached the management committee it was not well received, because they felt we were trying to take over their role. It is necessary with existing networks to identify who may feel threatened in some way by the new activity, and deal with issues of "ownership".
